In this episode of the FitMIND FitBODY podcast, I chat with Simone Hayes, an incredible runner with a unique journey. Simone shares her story of growing up in Sydney and how she was introduced to various sports as a child, although running was not her favourite activity. Despite not enjoying running initially, she was very active and participated in many other sports like swimming, dancing, and netball.

Simone talks about her turning point when she started running more seriously after getting married. She initially took up running to stay fit but gradually fell in love with the sport. Simone describes how running helped her quit smoking and drinking (drinking to excess 🙂 ) , and how it became a crucial part of her life.

Simone also discusses her experiences with ultra-distance running. She shares the challenges and joys of participating in events like 100K races and 24-hour track runs. Her journey is filled with highs and lows, but her determination and passion for running shine through.

One of the highlights of Simone’s story is her involvement in the Australian Ultra and Trail Running Association. She explains her roles within the organisation and how she helps promote and support the ultra-running community in Australia.
