In this episode, we catch up with Jo Stumm for her first training check-in as she prepares for the ‘Gone Nuts’ Ultra Adventure Run in March. Jo shares her training progress and reflects on the challenges and triumphs she has encountered along the way.
Jo reveals that she has been running four to five days a week, complementing her running with one strength training session and regular bike commutes to work. Despite a recent hip niggle, Jo maintains a positive attitude, emphasising the importance of strength training in her routine.
She candidly discusses the balance between her training and a busy work schedule, particularly during late nights, and how she strives to maintain consistency in her runs. Jo also highlights the mental benefits she gains from running, expressing how it improves her day, even after late work nights.
As the holiday season approaches, Jo talks about planning her training around family commitments and travel, ensuring she stays on track with her long runs. She shares her excitement for the increasing length of her weekend runs and how she turns them into mini-adventures, planning different routes and looking forward to the physical and mental challenges they bring.
Jo also touches on the importance of hydration and nutrition during training, especially as the weather warms up. She discusses her strategy for carrying water during runs and her approach to nutrition, both during training and on race day, emphasising the need to listen to her body’s requirements.
