Join us in this episode as we delve into the life of Kelly Selby, an inspiring runner from Devonport, Tasmania, who has embraced the world of trail running with enthusiasm and dedication. Kelly shares her journey from Penguin to Devonport, including a brief stint in Western Australia, and how her life experiences have shaped her passion for running.

Kelly’s running story is unique as she only started running about five to six years ago with a simple goal to lose weight. She humorously recalls how she initially despised running during her childhood, often finding ways to avoid it at school sports carnivals. However, her perspective changed drastically, and she now finds joy and fulfilment in the sport.

Previously a dancer, Kelly highlights how her approach to running is not about speed or personal bests but about the sheer enjoyment of being on the trails. Her training regimen is impressive, as she manages to balance running with a demanding schedule that includes a full-time job as a property manager and a casual role on the Spirit of Tasmania.

In preparation for the ‘Gone Nuts’ race, Kelly discusses her pragmatic approach to training, fitting in runs whenever possible, and the importance of a running coach who understands her goals and the unique demands of trail running. She emphasises the mental clarity and stress relief that running provides, especially during the busy summer months.

Kelly’s story is an inspiring example of how it’s never too late to discover a passion for running. Her journey from being a reluctant runner to participating in major events like the Melbourne Marathon and various trail events in Tasmania and beyond is a testament to her resilience and love for the sport.
